Two business owners tell me their business is not showing on Google Maps, and they mean completely different things. One cannot find the listing anywhere, in any browser, from any phone. The other finds it fine, but only after scrolling past six competitors.
Those are different problems with different fixes. Treating them as one is why so much local SEO effort in Bangkok goes nowhere.
Either way, spend the first hour on diagnosis rather than optimisation. Collecting reviews will not rescue a suspended profile. Filing a reinstatement appeal will not help a healthy profile that simply sits eleventh.
You will learn how to separate the two cases in five minutes, the six causes of genuine invisibility, what actually moves Maps ranking in 2026, and the Thailand-specific traps that international guides never mention.
Start with the test, because everything after this depends on which problem you have.
Are You Missing, or Just Ranking Low? Test It First
Your own phone is the worst tool for this job.
Google personalises Maps results by your location, your search history, and the profiles you have interacted with. Searching your own business name from your own office almost always returns your listing, which tells you nothing about what a customer three kilometres away sees.

Run three checks instead. Open an incognito window and search your exact business name plus your district, for example “Ratchada” or “Thonglor”. Then sign in at business.google.com and read the status banner at the top of the profile. Then run a geo grid scan with a tool like Local Falcon, BrightLocal, or Places Scout, which plots your rank across a map of test points rather than a single one.
The results split cleanly. If the profile does not appear in incognito anywhere, and the dashboard shows pending, suspended, or disabled, you have a visibility problem. If it appears in incognito but sits outside the top three across most of the grid, you have a ranking problem.
Write down which branch you are on. The rest of this article is two separate playbooks, and running the wrong one wastes weeks.
Business Not Showing on Google Maps: Six Real Causes
If your listing is genuinely invisible, the cause is almost always one of six things, and five of them sit inside the profile rather than the algorithm.
Your profile is unverified. Creating a profile and verifying it are separate steps. Until verification completes, the business exists in Google’s system but does not publish to Maps or Search. In Thailand, postcard verification takes roughly five to fourteen days and the code expires after thirty, so a postcard that nobody collected at a reception desk is a common failure point. Video verification is usually faster.
Your profile is suspended. Suspensions arrive without warning and often follow an edit: a name change, an address change, a phone number change, or added keywords in the business name. A soft suspension is the nastiest version, because the profile still looks normal inside your dashboard while the public listing has gone.
You have duplicate listings. An old agency, a former employee, or Google’s own data providers created a second profile. Duplicates split your reviews and your signals, and Google may suppress both rather than pick a winner.
Your business model is not eligible. Google requires a location with signage that is staffed during stated hours, or a properly configured service area business with a hidden address. Virtual offices and hot desks in coworking spaces fail this test, and Bangkok has a lot of both.
Your pin is in the wrong place. Thai addresses with soi numbers, unnamed lanes, and multi-tenant condo buildings frequently geocode to the street entrance or to the wrong tower. A pin that does not match the address weakens Google’s confidence in the whole listing.
The profile is too new or too recently edited. New listings and edited fields both enter review queues. Making five more edits while waiting resets the clock rather than speeding it up.
If all six come back clean and the listing is simply thin, your problem is completeness rather than visibility, and our Google Business Profile optimization checklist covers the fields to fill first.
Work through those six in order before you touch anything else. Five of them are administrative problems wearing an SEO costume.
Ranking Low Is a Different Problem Entirely
If the listing is live and just buried, you are not fighting suspension rules. You are fighting three ranking factors that Google names openly.

Google’s own documentation lists relevance, distance, and prominence as the basis for local results. Relevance measures how well your profile matches the search. Distance measures how far you sit from the searcher. Prominence measures how well known the business is, which Google ties partly to links and reviews. Distance is the one you cannot negotiate with. Whitespark’s 2026 Local Search Ranking Factors survey, compiled from 47 local SEO practitioners scoring 187 factors, puts Google Business Profile signals at 32% of local pack weight, the heaviest category of the seven. Reviews follow at around 20% and on-page signals at around 19%. The three highest-scoring individual factors are your primary category, your proximity to the searcher, and keywords in your business title.
That leaves a clear order of operations. Your primary category does more than any other field you control, because it decides which query sets you are eligible for at all. Completeness comes next, and Google’s own figure is that customers are 70% more likely to visit a business with a complete profile and 50% more likely to consider buying from it. Reviews come third, where recency and response rate now matter as much as raw count, and photos and posts function as activity signals rather than direct ranking levers. Our full guide to local SEO in Bangkok works through each of these in order.
Fix category first, completeness second, reviews third. Anyone selling you citation packages before those three are done is selling you the easy part.
INSPIRA INSIGHT
At Inspira Digital Agency, the first thing we check on a Bangkok local SEO audit is not the ranking. It is whether the business has more than one profile. Duplicates are the most common Google Maps problem we find, and they are almost never created deliberately. A web developer sets one up during a build, a listing service creates another, an old office address leaves a third behind. Customers call the number on the wrong profile, get nothing, and assume the business closed. Before you optimise anything, search Maps for every address and phone number your business has ever used.
Why Your Business Does Not Show on Google Maps in Thailand
Thailand adds four problems that guides written for the US and UK never address.

Language is the biggest one. Google supports Thai throughout the Business Profile, including a separate Thai-language name field. A profile carrying only an English name is far weaker for Thai-language queries, and Thai searches make up the majority of local search volume in most categories here. Given that Google holds close to 99% of Thai search market share across 67.8 million internet users, an English-only profile in Bangkok is a self-inflicted ceiling. We cover the market picture in our Thailand digital marketing and SEO statistics roundup.
Addresses are the second. Thai addresses run in an order Google’s geocoder handles poorly: house number, moo or soi, road, sub-district, district, province. Serviced offices in Sathorn and Asok, condo units used as registered addresses, and buildings with several towers all produce pins that land somewhere plausible but wrong. Drag the pin manually and confirm it against the entrance a customer would actually walk through.
Verification is the third. Postcards to Bangkok office buildings disappear at reception often enough that video verification is usually the better first choice. Record the walk from the street sign, past your signage, to your desk, in one unbroken shot.
Holidays are the fourth, and they cost real calls. Businesses that leave regular hours in place through Songkran and public holidays collect “permanently closed” edits from users and lose trust signals that take months to rebuild. Set special hours in advance.
None of these four cost money to fix. They cost an afternoon, and most Bangkok businesses have never spent it.
How to Fix a Suspended Google Business Profile
Do nothing for the first ten minutes, because your instinct is wrong.
The reflex after a suspension is to edit the profile until something works, or to create a fresh listing. Both make reinstatement harder. Editing during review restarts it, and a duplicate listing gives Google a reason to deny the appeal outright.

Work in this order instead. Screenshot the suspension notice and the current profile state. Read Google’s guidelines for representing your business and identify honestly which rule you broke, since roughly nine times in ten it is a keyword-stuffed business name, an address with no staffed signage, or a category that does not match the operation. Fix the underlying violation. Then assemble evidence: exterior photographs showing your sign and the street, your DBD company registration, a utility bill or lease in the business name, and photographs of the interior.
Submit one appeal through the Business Profile reinstatement form, then wait. Filing repeatedly does not escalate the case, it queues duplicates. Expect several days to several weeks, and expect one rejection before a successful second attempt if your evidence was thin the first time.
Keep the evidence pack in a shared folder afterwards. Businesses that get suspended once are usually suspended again, and the second appeal takes an hour when the documents already exist.
That is the fast path. For a full breakdown of appeal timelines, evidence checklists, and why first appeals get denied, see our complete guide on how to get a suspended Google Business Profile reinstated in Thailand.
Showing on Maps Is No Longer the Whole Job
Getting back into the map pack solves a 2023 problem, and your customers have moved.
Whitespark’s 2026 research found AI Overviews appearing for 68% of local searches, while local packs appeared for only 39% of the same queries. Joy Hawkins of Sterling Sky has tracked AI local packs surfacing a far smaller pool of businesses than the classic three-pack, typically showing one or two names rather than three. Google launched its Gemini-powered Ask Maps on March 12, 2026 in the US and India, and extended it to more than 150 countries in August 2026. It answers natural-language questions inside the Maps app using your profile fields, your services list, your attributes, and your reviews, and it replaced the old public Q&A section entirely.
The practical consequence is that your profile is no longer a listing. It is a data source that language models read and quote. Services with real descriptions, attributes filled in completely, and a website that states plainly what you do and where you do it all feed answers you never see rank. We break the mechanics down in our guide to AI Overviews in Thailand.
Fix the Maps problem first, because a suspended profile fails everywhere at once. Then treat the profile as content.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my business show on Google Search but not on Google Maps?
This usually means the profile is soft suspended or the address failed verification. Google can keep a knowledge panel in Search while removing the map pin, particularly after an address edit. Check business.google.com for a status banner, then search your business name in incognito on maps.google.com. If the pin is gone but the panel remains, treat it as a suspension and prepare a reinstatement appeal.
How long does a new Google Business Profile take to appear on Maps?
Verification is the gate, not time. Video and phone verification can publish a listing within a few days, while postcard verification in Thailand takes roughly five to fourteen days before you even enter the code. After verification completes, the listing generally appears within a few days. If two weeks pass with a verified profile and no listing, check for duplicates and suspensions.
Can I use a coworking or virtual office address in Bangkok?
Only if the location is genuinely staffed by your business during your stated hours and carries your signage. A hot desk or mail-forwarding address in a Bangkok coworking space violates Google’s guidelines and is one of the most common suspension causes in Thailand. If you have no staffed premises, configure the profile as a service area business, hide the address, and define the districts you serve.
Why can I see my business on Maps but customers cannot?
Google personalises results using location and search history, so your own device is unreliable. Test in incognito, on mobile data rather than office Wi-Fi, and ideally from another district. A geo grid tool such as Local Falcon shows your rank at dozens of points across a city, which reveals whether you are invisible everywhere or simply losing on distance outside your immediate area.
Do Google Business Profile posts improve Maps ranking?
No. A Sterling Sky study tracking 441 keywords over nine weeks found no ranking movement from posts, and Joy Hawkins has repeated the test since. Posts still matter in 2026 for two other reasons. Posts signal an actively managed profile, and their text feeds AI answer surfaces including Ask Maps and AI Overviews. Treat posts as content for people and language models, not as a ranking lever.
Conclusion
The most useful thing you can do today is decide which problem you actually have.
A business not showing on Google Maps is either invisible or outranked, and the two have almost nothing in common. Invisibility traces back to verification, suspension, duplicates, eligibility, or a misplaced pin, and it is administrative work you can finish this week. Low ranking traces back to category, completeness, and reviews, and it is slower work with a longer payoff.
You now know how to test which one you have in five minutes instead of guessing for a quarter.
